Well.

Ulrika is home sick today... But I was browsing through today's Seattle Weekly, and spotted that Johnny Clegg is doing a gig tonight at The Triple Door.

Ulrika's been a big fan of his for... years. Since we lived in Pasadena, so late-1980s, early-1990s.

And I can't recall ever even seeing a concert listing with him before, anywhere.

So, a quick inquiry as to how sickly she really feels, and a call later, and... we're going.

You'll like The Triple Door if you haven't been there before. Wild Ginger is upstairs, and they provide the food. The acoustics are good, too. [livejournal.com profile] shikzoid and I saw Kitka in concert a few months ago (thank you [livejournal.com profile] athenais), and really enjoyed the performance space.

Oooo! Johnny Clegg!

I would SO want to go with you if I was already living in Seattle!

I remember listening to Johnny Clegg....in the early nineties. I had a teacher who introduced my class to him.

Cool. The only time I've seen them listed on a concert was something like WOMAD or something...

Go! I've seen him live, but it was in the late '80s or early '90s. He stopped touring altogether after his friend and bandmate (whose name escapes me--the guy he danced with) was killed. He hasn't even had an album out, AFAIK, in years.

[realizes it's now Thursday] OK, well, did you go? How was it???

Fabulous. One encore only but it all pretty much rocked. Hal's main cavil was the voice mics were mixed too low, and mine was that we were seated too far from the aisle so I never had a chance to get up and dance, but a lot of people did, and I was pleased to see that. The live version of "Cruel, Crazy, Beautiful World" was especially fine.

The voice is almost always mixed too low.

Remember the woman who opened for Zevon at the Wiltern. I think she was interesting, but couldn't tell.

The Untouchables where the same way. If I'd not heard them on albums before we went to the show, I'd have said they weren't worth the time.

I'm glad you were up to it.
