Shoobie and Kaylee

Definitely an independent character.

The thing is, Fred's expression here reminds me a lot of our now-gone cat Lefty.

kaylee petfinder 03

One year ago today, we picked up Kaylee from Saving Great Animals, a pet rescue group. The original intent was just to foster her until a permanent home could be found for her, but... we became that permanent home.

I'm glad we did.

Up there is one of her original shelter photographs, showing just how goofy-looking she was presented. Here's a picture I took the 2nd day we had her:

Kaylee on the office floor

I don't think she would have languished for 90 days in the shelter if my picture had been used, rather than theirs.

But now... Too damned bad. She's our dog, and you can't have her. So there.

Here's a link to all the pictures I've posted of her at my Flickr account.

Turn of head

So while we were in and out of Potlatch, we found a place to board Kaylee for the first time. That would be with a couple we met at Kent's Grandview Dog Park one time, Carol and Steve, who have a web site at TheDogLadyCares.com.

One of their options is they'll send you email updates of how your furry friend is doing. That leads to the following extremely cute video of Kaylee playing with a Chihuahua-mix puppy, Ranger:

In this observer's anthropomorphic opinion, part of Kaylee's bemusement with Ranger is because Kaylee lives with three cats. Thus, "Dude! You're small and furry like a cat, but your paws don't have those sharp slashy things like a cat. What's up with that?"

I'm just back from having Kaylee weighed. She's currently 53.4 lbs. On 12/21, her previous weigh-in, she was 51.7.

That's +1.7 in 21 elapsed days, for a 3.3% gain. Or +.16% per day.

Yup. Still growing.

When we took Kaylee to the vet just after we got her, the first week of November, she weighed 42.4 lbs.

I just got back from another weighing. 51.7 lbs. So +22% of her old weight in seven weeks.

I thought she was growing.

The Busy Buddy is a toy that allows you to put kibble, snacks, or other treats inside. We picked this up at our local Mud Bay today.

[livejournal.com profile] akirlu wrote a while back about the odd paw print medallion we got as part of the package of Sarah's cremation package, and how it didn't look quite right.

With all due modesty, rooting through some of the beach pics tonight, I think this one is more the feel she was looking for.

A day of firsts:

* We went to French Lake Dog Park in Federal Way. Our first time there, and possibly Kaylee's first time at any dog park. She interacted with the other dogs fairly well, and there was lots of room for her to run around.

* We took her to the beach for the first time, at one of our local places, Saltwater State Park, also in Federal Way. We went a few hours later, though, so there was good light to photograph by. (that's not the reason we went -- we went because it was so nice and sunny today. still.)

She's progressively getting better at commands, leashed walking, etc. She's picking things up fairly quickly.

A pretty bright candle, considering she was due to be snuffed out 36 hours ago.

I think this is the best picture I've managed of Kaylee so far. If she'd had this on her shelter profile, I bet she'd've been picked up faster.

Kaylee on the deck

This is Kaylee, who we picked up today. We're fostering her. She's very kinetic, so this is about the most stable pic I could get during a first attempt. I did a video as well, it'll probably be coming later.

She's a rescue dog, and has been in a shelter in Pasco since 7/30. She literally would have been euthanized today if we hadn't agreed to foster her.

She has a very sweet disposition. Even in the few hours we've hosted her, she's been fun.

Her paperwork spells her name as "Kaylea," but I suspect that's just a question of someone previous who was looking either for uniqueness, or couldn't spell. Either way, I figure she's Kaylee now.

Shiny!

The 10th picture taken with the old Kodak DC4800 digicam. The second day we'd owned it, June 30 2001, so probably bought for my birthday (and for our upcoming trip to Sweden that year).

Presumably the first digital picture of me and Sarah, and presumably taken by Ulrika. This is in our apartment in Costa Mesa, Calif.

[livejournal.com profile] scarlettina just posted a LOLcat editor photo.

No sooner had I read the entry, than Lefty jumped up on my desk. I'm not kidding.

So, as I just wrote to her:

I didn't plan or stage this, really (well, OK, I scrolled the window to match, but that's it).

Anyway... I see your kitteh editor, and raise you a recursive editor of my own:
