Trinidad!

kate_schaefer wrote to me with a snippet of something we were talking about last night:

Trinidad!
...and the big Mississippi,
and the town Honolulu...

This was just enough to get me finding a few things. The piece in question is "The Geographical Fugue" or "Fuge aus der Geographie" by Ernst Toch.

While searching for more details, I found this reminiscence by Lawrence Weschler, who is Toch's grandson. Among other things, it turns out the English translation of the piece was made at the instigation of John Cage -- which is probably why I performed it with my college choir, as both Cage and I are alumni of Pomona College.
