So in watching the telly-vision lately, I've noticed a batch of commercials for the Gerber Life Insurance Company. I thought perhaps this was a new extension of the Gerber brand, but no, turns out it's been around since 1967. That said, though, "Food company Nestlé bought Gerber Life and its parent company from Novartis in 2007." -- which may be why the seemingly new push.

The whole idea puzzles me, though, as I was commenting to [livejournal.com profile] akirlu the other night. It's as if they're saying this:

"If you want your child to grow up healthily, buy Gerber baby food. But, hey, if your child should, you know, die for some reason, well, have we got a product for you!"

It's almost like a hedge fund approach to pediatrics.

Ew.
