Heavyweights
Mar. 17th, 2005 11:44 pmToday is the day Americans of Irish descent celebrate that damned Romano-Celt imperialist pig dog.
That being the case, I was poking around Wikipedia and the like reading about him, when I was reminded to take a look at the web page of my own, properly Scots clan, the Clan Campbell Society (North America).
It's quite a sight to see right now, that page. For it has News.

"IN SPORT, it is usually a case of you like what you’re good at. In that case the playing fields of Scotland will soon be rumbling with the heavy footfalls of pachyderms.
The nation’s dismal sporting record has been lifted with the news that we have won a World Cup - in elephant polo.
The national team, captained by the Duke of Argyll (!!), won the Elephant Polo World Championship in Nepal.
They fought off stiff competition to triumph in the final against the local hot favourites.
Their performance is a welcome boost to Scotland’s beleaguered sporting reputation. The nation’s football team was ranked at an all-time low of 77th in the world last week and their new boss Walter Smith faces a tough task of qualifying for the World Cup finals. The rugby team has been thrashed by Australia and South Africa in recent weeks.
The Scotland elephant polo team, which has been sponsored by Chivas Regal whisky since 1997, raised the Tiger Tops Challenge Trophy after defeating National Parks of Nepal 12-6.
The tournament, which has been running for 23 years, was played out at Nepal’s famous Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge.
The victory has seen the Scottish team, who flew back into Gatwick Airport yesterday morning, regain the world title they previously held in 2001.
The Duke of Argyll said: "We’re ecstatic at bringing the World Cup back to Scotland.
"With this victory, no-one can deny Scotland are one of the world’s sporting heavyweights. To travel to Tiger Tops and come away a world champion was an experience of a lifetime."
*^*^*
You really should click through, just to see the team (and their team, as it were), with someone in the middle holding up the trophy.
This only reminded me of Black Adder II -- "Melchett?! Who's Duke?"
