The Sweeper Party
Mar. 3rd, 2006 02:18 pmFor the last few years, I've been mulling in my head the idea of a new political party. Not because the Republicans and the Democrats are flip sides of the same coin -- we've now seen, these past 5 years, that the GOP has become a cult of personality, while the Dems still stand for something resembling the Constitution.
No, it's more been along the lines of getting people interested in politics when there's an existing... hm. Installed base? Flock of devotees, at any rate -- who are extremely off-putting to the bulk of the Amurrican peepul. That is, "I could get involved in politics, and civic affairs... But would I have to become like them? Ewwww..."
I think this reaction is particularly prevalent among people born after 1960 or so. And the consequences are chewing us up.
So, I was thinking... and then I remembered "Peabody's Improbable History." More famous for Peabody and Sherman, and for the Wayback Machine, one of the cool things about that show was how the opening credits always presented history as a parade.
And there, at the end of the parade, was the little guy who had to sweep up after it.
"The Sweeper Party -- We Clean Up the Messes Other Parties Leave Behind."
Now if only I could find a .JPG of a freeze-frame of the little guy...

euterpe35 found exactly what I needed, and I've made a new userpic [see post]. Thanks!)

Date: 2006-03-03 11:40 pm (UTC)Selling the idea of giving infinite goods for zero cost (except that small thing of borrowing money, but who thinks about tomorrow?) is a lot easier than selling the idea of cleaning up after the party is over...
