...I went to Leilani Lanes to do the karaoke thang.

This was mostly at [livejournal.com profile] pixelwench's suggestion.

It was mostly pretty cool, albeit a Gump-like box of chocolates, quality-of-vocals-wise.

Joe sang "I Believe I Can Fly", and something else I can't remember right now that was also soul-ish. He did great. [livejournal.com profile] elsnaibs showed up late enough that he didn't get in the queue, but it was good to meet him. Pix sang Jewel's "You Were Meant for Me", and should've sung a bit more loudly, because she has a lovely voice.

I did Harry Chapin's "Taxi" -- a mistake, it was not really a 70's ballad kind of crowd, and while I like the song, performance-wise it's too repetitive -- U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" -- my best number for the night -- and Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue". (yes, insecure as i am, i'm still something of an egomaniac, and i got in the queue early.)

The fun-in-a-train-wreck-kind-of-way was this one table of very rowdy people. I don't know if they were just a bunch of friends, or work mates, or what, but they were clearly a group, and they were very silly to watch. A refrain from our table: "Cut the blonde in the pink tank off!" -- because she was the most irrationally exuberant of the bunch. Still, if you've never seen a white girl sing a version of "Mustang Sally" with voice effects that approximate James Brown doing a bit of auto-strangulation... Count yourself lucky. :)

All in all a fun night, and it was good to put some faces behind the LJ names.

Thank you for the kind words. I would've sang more loudly
had I not been so sleepy, and the smoke in the bar not been
irritating my throat so much. [The one thing I really don't
like about doing karaoke] You did an excellent job. Color me
impressed. We'll have to find another place to go and do it
in the near future. Was nice meeting you as well. Take care!

[Oh, and Trevin was the one who sang "I Believe I Can Fly".]
