I'm with John Hertz on this one... Americans are surprisingly suspicious of imagination. One of fandom's endearing traits is, it isn't. Mostly. :)

Date: 2006-05-10 04:17 pm (UTC)I would amend though: Americans are surprisingly suspicious of imagination in the hands of ordinary people -- you have to be a vetted authority to weild creativity. And in that respect there are corners of fandom that are sadly American.
