Early this weekend, I was cleaning out one of our two storage closets.

I found a number of things in the various boxes marked "miscellaneous papers" -- always the most time consuming to sort through, and I know very well why Dave Weinberger's next book is to be titled Everything Is Miscellaneous.

Due to quirky_teal being, well, quirky, we lost most of our family photos in the late 1980s sometime.

This is perhaps the oldest extant photo of me. I'm in the back yard of our place on Myrtle Ave in Cambridge, MA (just about a block from where Savenor's Market used to be, on Kirkland). The little girl next to me is Bea Carrieri, our neighbors' daughter (and probably my first crush :) This must be in 1964 sometime -- I was born June 28, 1963, and I think I must be older than six months but younger than a year-and-a-half...

This is me in 1st Grade, in 1969.

Startling proof of both how my hair used to be very red, and how I was a cute 'lil devil.

My school that year was Forster Elementary, in Somerville, MA, which a quick browse of their web site shows isn't active anymore.

Red and Rover

OK. You've seen a picture of me in 1969. And you've seen a picture of Sarah in her native habitat.

So... you might now understand why Red and Rover (which is very subtle on how it's set in the late 1960s) sometimes seems very eerie to me... :)

New thing learned for today

Did you know that Gina Gershon has a tongue so long she, "had to have speech therapy to learn how to swallow”?

This was arrived at by this strip at Wapsi Square, which pablowapsi says was inspired by his reading that factoid about Ms. Gershon, but he hadn't had a chance to use it before.
