Seems the main casus belli was that Mr. Jackson, having directed the Lord of the Rings movies that made NewLine US$3 billion, dared to audit them to make sure he'd been paid properly.

Getting rid of an uppity director who dares to challenge authority is clearly more important than making another few billion for the shareholders.

Or, um, not.

Yet another incident supporting my hypothesis: If you give an Amurrican businessperson a choice between lots of money and little control, and lots of control but little money, they'll go after the control over the money like a mouse after cheese every time.
