Blast from the past
Jul. 29th, 2007 01:32 pmFollowing up on a pointer from Jay Lake to an essay from Eric Flint in Jim Baen's Universe leading to all kinds of thoughts about fair use, and "piracy", I noticed that Mike Resnick is currently making many of the same points about magazine production and paying writers well that I did in 1993, when I had an early, DOS-based electronic magazine called Pacific Edge.
Following up on that, I can now tell you: Pacific Edge is still available online. Only two of the three issues, to be sure, but still being "in print" after 14 years, however obscurely, is no mean feat.
Search the page cited for the files EDGE9305.ZIP and EDGE9401.ZIP. The executibles still work on my XP laptop. Your mileage may vary.
(If you want to see what I'm talking about re my thoughts at the time: in EDGE9305, go to section 12, "Subscription Information," and then the article, "The Relationship Between Subscriptions, and What You Read.")
