So, David Goldstein (aka Goldy) has gone through the paperwork, and discovered what I'd only heard mentioned as a rumor before:

"After reading the rules, reviewing the documents and analyzing the data, I am now prepared to categorically state that Sen. John McCain most certainly did not win the Washington state Republican caucus... because there was no Republican caucus, at least not as most people understand the term.

What transpired Saturday afternoon was in fact a straw poll, followed by a delegate selection process that had no direct relationship to presidential preference. Caucus attendees were asked to register at their precinct table, using a form that asks for, but does not specifically require stating one’s presidential preference."

Full details, and scanned-in copies of the forms, at the link above.

The thing I still don't understand is what the basis for the delegate selection was. It didn't seem to have anything to do with the preferences expressed in the straw poll at each precinct, so what was it? Whim? Orders from Boss Esser?

It will also be interesting to see what happens in the upcoming primary, which I believe does has some impact on the Republican delegate selection.

Remember, too, that Dino Rossi is Esser's man. This is the same Repub party that told former governor and senator Daniel J. Evans to go home, he was not welcome at their last convention (or perhaps the one before that). Esser is the man who said the Dems only won the governorship by fraud. Does he project and see his own squalid behavior in others?

I'd kinda like Huck to win because he's so defeatable. Keep eyes open for state politics in this cauldron of infamy called the GOP.
