I bought this album on vinyl when it came out originally. The guy who ran the Virgin Imports shop in Sloane Square (and later went on to become A&R man at Virgin Records) used to play me all cool new things from the US and Europe when I went in almost every Saturday: this was one of them. I was immediately impressed by Haskell's arrangements, as well I should be. Long since let the vinyl album go...
I, too, kept my eyes open on the Web until one day it popped up (I bought the Japanese CD from Amazon). So now I can hear it as it was intended instead of having vinyl like a veil over my ears.
There are quite a few electronic FX of one kind or another on the album; we had basic electronic sound generators in those days :)
The album concept IMO doesn't really stand the test of time. I'm not even sure I thought it was particularly sensible at the time - but there are some great pieces on there. I loved the broadcast-style V/O on this track, even though the content is hokey. But actually my favourite part of the track, and possibly the whole album, is the Hammond arpeggio at 3:35 (on the album version) just before the last verse - it sounds like it's a modulation but actually isn't (pity about the tape stretch or something that happens just after the vocals end).
