Thoughtful quote for the day
Mar. 18th, 2004 12:57 pm"In the hallway of a public school in Miami, I once studied the pictures of the students that lined the walls. Along one wall were photos of the student honor court, those with the best grades. Along the other wall were pictures of the basketball team. All the faces in the pictures were black, and it would have been very diffcult to tell by looking at them who was from what country. The names, however, were different. On the first wall were the likes of Jean-Louis and Roland and Marie, the names of Haitian immigrants. The students on the other wall, wearing basketball uniforms, were native-born Americans."
