Thanks.

The picture is from the interior of Storkyrkan, ye olde church in Stockholm. I took it with my Kodak DC4800 digital camera, no flash. We were there in July, 2001. This is one of the pictures that most impressed me about how the DC4800 can handle low-light photography.

Thinking about this, I went out hunting on the web. Storkyrkan does have a web site.

Here's what they have to say about the globe:

"Ljusgloben

I kyrkan nordvästra hörn hänger Ljusgloben.

[livejournal.com profile] akirlu, my ace translator of Swedish, renders it this way in English:

"The candle globe

In the church's northwest corner hangs the candle globe. It was created by the artist Torolf Engstrom [in] 1972. The candle globe has 49 (7x7) candle holders, sized for Christmas tree candles. The globe hangs vertically with a square, brass cross hanging from an iron hook in the middle. If one wants to light a candle but the globe is hanging too high, one can take hold of it to lower it. Lord, let my candle shine for others, may Your light shine for me."

Which is more than I knew about it before. Thanks. :)
