You're seeing Osama bin Laden plastered all over the media today because George W. Bush fucked up.
If Mr. Bush genuinely gave a damn about fighting terrorism, if he actually cared about 9/11 as an atrocity and not as a tool for his own power grabs, if he actually sought revenge for that black day... Osama bin Laden would be dead or in custody by now.
How do I know?
Two words: Saddam Hussein.
When Bush actually cares about something, when he wants to get something done, it usually happens... However clumsily, however much it breaks the crockery.
Saddam Hussein was in power. Surrounded by what his minions told him was a decent army.
We eventually extracted him from a hole, in a farm field. A hole barely bigger than himself.
Now, ask yourself -- Is Osama bin Laden really that much more difficult to find than Saddam Hussein was? Is his circle of intimates really that much more loyal? Is he really that much more crafty to elude us?
Bush keeps running his campaign as if it was someone else who suffered the worst terrorist attack against the United States, as if it was someone else who retaliated in way that didn't touch the perpetrator at all, as if it was someone else who let the perpetrator run free and with impunity for three years (and counting).
Bush simply doesn't care. He's either unwilling or unable to get the job done.
So, you're going to hear a lot of this from the Bush campaign: "Woo-woo! Bin Laden's out there! He's still planning to attack us! Only we can keep you safe!"
Just remember... Bin Laden is out there only because Bush CAN'T DO THE JOB!.
If he could, bin Laden would be dead or imprisoned, and not a threat.
And maybe Kerry can, and maybe he can't... But at least he'd try.
The fallen dead of 9/11 and our soldiers in Iraq deserve no less.
Support the troops: Give them a Commander-in-Chief who's willing to get the job done.
