Back on the last weekend of February, there was an SF convention here in Seattle called Potlach.

[livejournal.com profile] pecunium gave me a lens, a 60-300mm zoom that he didn't need anymore, and this was my first real chance to play with it. To show you how far behind I can get in such things, I only received my pictures back today, having taken them to the lab last week.

The pictures use Tri-X 400ASA black and white film, pushed to 1600. They're all from the last day of the con, when nearly everyone was in the con suite, in one biggish, happy, party-like atmosphere. The light was coming in through the windows, and I thought it was very striking.

I'm pleased to say it appears to have come out on film that way as well.

In approximate alphabetical order by first name:

As a photographer, I love Art Widner's face. I think it's almost cheating, taking a picture of him. It's like taking a portrait of Ansel Adams -- there's just so much character there...

Glenn Hackney (WINOLJ -- I think)

Glenn and Kate Schaefer ([livejournal.com profile] kate_schaefer)

John D. Berry

I love Lise Eisenberg's laugh.

Terry Karney ([livejournal.com profile] pecunium, himself. Blame him.)

Those are beautiful pictures. Seems to capture an essence that conveys more than what we would normally see. I'm quite impressed.

Thank you

As I've said before, you're quite kind.

Those are great photos! But it is possible to take a bad photo of Art (I've seen one) so you're not cheating! I love the one with the strong lighting. Black and white adds such different emphasis to a face.

Yeah, I have a few bad ones of Art, too... But when it clicks, he's a great subject.

Thank you.

I don't know how I missed these the first time round.

Art is a great subject. I miss B&W, I need to shoot more film.

I hope you're making good use of the lens.

Terry, just so you know, the IP for the person above is 170.190.40.78, which WHOIS tells me belongs to the "Metropolitan Government of Nashville." Anyone you know? (Doesn't ring any bells for me.)

No idea.

Nashville? Nobody I can think of.

Strange.
