For those of you with a sporting inclination, here's the leader board for betting on which Cardinal will become the next Bishop of Rome (aka, Pope), with links to various side bets -- his Papal name, which color the next smoke will be, etc.
Following some of the scuttlebutt previously seen, Ernest Gallo's favorite, Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles, isn't even in the betting yet. Nor, among the names, is Sixtus, leaving His Holiness Sixtus VI of Oakland (sometimes known as Robert Silverberg) safe from further usurpation by these anti-popes. {cough}

Other than that, I wonder how the betting action on the Pope stuff compares with that mega-event for betting, March Madness.

Date: 2005-04-19 07:04 am (UTC)(My dad once took me to a twi-night doubleheader on a school night* because it was the Cards' last visit to Forbes Field before Stan the Man retired, and Dad wanted me to be able to say I'd seen him play. Musial is originally from Donora, not far from Pittsburgh, so he was a local hero here too.)
(*OK, it was a Friday. So it wasn't like I had to skip doing my homework. But it was after school. I came home from school and he said, "You wanna go to the ball game?")
