"I assume the president's going to say he got bad intelligence."

-- Congressman Charles Rangel, of New York, on Bush's comment about no one being able to predict the New Orelans levees breaking. From a New York Times article on the race and class issues surrounding the response to the disaster.

Terrorists are to blame you know.

I just finished reading this article on NYT before coming back to LJ to catch up. He's very right. Even folks in my little liberal office were unaware that MSY is 70% black and has a median income of less than 35k a year in a city of half million residents.

What those towns outside of Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, the glittery white enclaves of the new south, that are the hidden and segregated (but by choice this time--yeah right) pockets of the Black South?

They won't see a single FEMA rep, RED Cross volunteer, even Salvation Army.

Our National shame should be there right in front of God and everybody, on National/international news--as it is right now.

I hope Bush comes to realize that it's easy to call yourself a "Uniter" when the only people you care to unite are those who see life your way, wear your clothes, share the color of your skin. When you preach to the choir, you're always united.

Those of us sitting out here in the congregation;

We're still waiting.
