(Which is short for disconnected... at least, it was back in the early 1980s at my college's computer center)

So our internet connection is down. It's a 768/128 DSL line, and the problem doesn't appear to be on our end. Basically, ATM pings aren't getting through, and the "Sync/PPPoE" light just flashes balefully at us in green. Earthlink thinks it's something at the telco's central office, which matches my diagnosis, and that means dealing with Verizon without being a Verizon customer directly. Been there, done that, had to write up that ticket way too many times at a previous employer, so... {shrug}. I figure it's all just karmic payback.

Two consequences: a) You're not likely to hear from me in a speedy fashion 'til this is resolved, and b) We're looking at alternatives. Trouble is, the bad news may be this is as good as it gets, service-wise. Not sure, and I'm doing more research.

Ta for now.
