Boom-chucka
Sep. 15th, 2006 07:32 pmMoving on...
Today's project well done was going to Circuit City by Crossroads and getting an AM/FM/CD installed in HMS Lagom. (I.e., our "new" Volvo 240DL wagon. And that's Hans Majestäts Skepp, even if if does mean the same thing as in the UK Royal Navy :)
See, one of the quirks of the Volvo (and if you hunt around on craig's list, you'll see that phrase a lot: "Volvo for sale. Has quirks.")... anyway, one of the quirks was, the factory radio had been removed, and a detachable faceplate radio/CD put in. Sounds like a good idea, but the faceplate was missing -- as were the speakers.
Oops.
So, we now have a Sony CDX-GT300 on board. This toy does AM/FM, is satellite-ready, plays CD audio/MP3/WMA, and has an auxiliary input. The aux in lets one plug in an MP3 player, or any damn thing with a 1/8" stereo minijack (like a standalone satellite radio player, or even a synthesizer or guitar if one got the right adapters).
Not quite a Grand Unification Device, because while satellite-ready, I decided to skip the $160 or so it seems it would take to put XM in. (It would be XM, because in our household Bob Edwards wins over Howard Stern, hands down.)
The main thing is, when I'm taking an hour to go over the 520 bridge during rush time, at least I'll have something to listen to. :)

As may be... There have been some fairly long drives where I'm just singing various tunes to keep myself entertained, with Sarah looking at me quizzically. This won't change, I'll just have better accompaniment, and a better selection of songs. :)
