This is one of those donor tiles, in this instance outside the public library in Redmond, WA. I've always liked the forthrightness of it. I should be so lucky.
The Mensch Gap By PAUL KRUGMAN Published: February 20, 2006 New York Times Op/Ed page
"Be a mensch," my parents told me. Literally, a mensch is a person. But by implication, a mensch is an upstanding person who takes responsibility for his actions. The people now running America aren't mensches.

I found it on www.answers.com looking up the word mensch, because I thought that I knew (and did know) what it meant, but I've been looking up words today to make sure that I am using them in a way that other people use them. There I saw the delightful quote, above, and said to myself, I remember that, reread it, and found it remains good.
Thank you for introducing me to the remembrance of Bernard Polishuk, 1928-1999, mensch.
