While [livejournal.com profile] gerisullivan didn't put it this way in her post on the topic that I read, still, some Seattle fans will welcome this:

There is now an alternative to the Seattle 2011 Worldcon bid.

For Your Consideration, and all that.

Did you notice that the bid is being floated by a travel company hoping to sell packages for the con? Or that the the fannish names mentioned in the FAQ are all Portland/Orycon types?

Dunno...

Reno Worldcon Bid

If you go to the "About Reno Travel and their Staff", you'll see that the bid committee is about 50% Portland people and 50% experienced worldcon runners from throughout the US (and Europe), including two past worldcon chairs and numerous past worldcon division heads. That's who "Reno travel" is--fans from through the fannish universe. I'm sorry that the fake "travel agency" was confusing (we need to work on making that clearer).

While the travel agency is a gag, the bid most definitely is not. We have recruited the core of a solid worldcon-running committee and we plan on putting on a great (we hope) worldcon in Reno in 2011.

Yep, what John said. While I considered moving to Oregon, I ended up in Massachusetts, instead. I'm honored to be on the Reno in 2011 bid committee.
