Chickens and the counting thereof
Sep. 26th, 2008 08:09 pmWhen it comes to the idea that McCain has had such a bad week that Obama is now a shoo-in for the presidency, I remind my friends of H.L. Mencken's thought: "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." That applies especially to the current occupant of the Oval Office.
On the other hand, consider this from advertising man David Ogilvy (and note the mild mangling of Mencken along the way, to keep to a theme):
"H.L. Mencken once said that nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public. That is not true. I have come to believe that it pays to make all your layouts project a feeling of good taste, provided that you do it unobtrusively. An ugly layout suggests an ugly product. There are very few products which do not benefit from being given a first class ticket through life."
If so, and graphic design wins, then Obama really is a shoo-in.
