OK.

[livejournal.com profile] coffeeem posted about The Night Kitchen, which opens, um, tonight, and is a new all-night restaurant here in Seattle. Their hours will be 6p-9a.

This of course reminded me of The Atomic Cafe in LA, back in the good old days. It was open from 4-4 -- PM to AM -- and a fair number of bands would go there after their gigs. It was all presided over by Atomic Nancy, the daughter of the original owners, who'd been the one to jazz up the hours, do the outreach to the musicians, and is one of the most sweetly funky people I've ever met.

If I was going to make that comparison, though, I had to go Googling to try to explain...

The link I went with in my comment was this one, because it provides pictures, a brief history, and {gasp!} a 44-minute mixtape download DJ'd by Nancy.

Turns out she also has a MySpace page. Also, Nancy's daughter, Zen Sekizawa, has a mixtape download available. Nancy's become involved in the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team (APAIT), and also sings with First A.M.E.’s Unity Choir. (!)

What a cool trip down memory lane. And I wish The Night Kitchen every success, and hope to visit soon.

EDITED TO ADD: And another mixtape by Nancy, this time with a playlist.
