About the LJMatch Thang

* If I've mysteriously added you recently, and you're not sure why, it's probably because I've been poking about LJMatch. Or, maybe I'm just playing with various chains of folks through the profiles. As may be, I'm always on the lookout for LJs (and their writers! :) that I think will be interesting.

* Like others, I'm really interested in their algorithm. Is it "birds of a feather"? "Opposites attract"? Or a mix'n'match depending on the individual questions?

* About the greater than 100% matches: It's in their FAQ, folks. I'm not sure I agree with them, but it seems both deliberate and well-intentioned.

* Being the kind of stat-head that I am, what I'd like to see is a median score among one's friends. (For those of you who don't know or don't remember, median is the value where half the datapoints are above, and half below -- right down the middle.) Take nomi. If you look at her list, you'll see the median is at about 95%. OTOH, if you look at my list, you'll see the median is at about 84%. If LJMatch is doing their thing right, this means nomi is hitting a like-minded audience much more squarely than I am. I'm not sure if this means anything, I'm just fascinated by the idea.

I'd be really interested to know their algorithm too.

I've noticed some people say that they thought the results were wrong, that they expected to score higher with some and lower with others. For the most part I think it's been right on for me, with a few exceptions.
