2nd cert

Well, it hasn't quite been 2 months since the last time, but I passed my second Microsoft certification exam today, Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (whew! a title longer than its URL! :)

This is a very good thing, as SQL is reasonably hot right now, and my contract with Volt ends... well, um, Friday.

So, I told Ulrika, and we decided to celebrate by going to Big Time Brewery. A few folks joined us, including marykaykare, and Marci Malinowycz, and Ron Drummond (though I suspect Ron was there just to be there, and didn't expect the rest of us :)

So, um, like that. A personal post, and good news no less.

Well, that's the plan, but as I was unemployed for 360 days last time (19 Oct until 14 Oct the following year), I am, um, worried. I definitely targeted SQL for marketability, although a friend of mine is nudging me over to the idea of getting into Test...

Software test isn't a bad way to go either... if you like poking and prodding code to find out where it went wonky. From what I understand, the pay is liveable, and it's an entry-foot in the door to bigger meaner coding jobs if you like that direction. A little over a decade ago, I considered software test as a jump up in skills, but life and the industry was different then, and I never did it. To try and get my foot in the door now with so much chage would be a considerable task (in school and/or experience) I think.

I'm feeling the same nervousness even though it's been less than 3 months. I typically hold jobs for years at a time, so to be unemployed is a really new state of being for me. And the gub'ment $ is drying up after earlier this year when I was off for a couple months. Color me creative in what I may try to do for a roof over my head! ahah
