Richard Clarke, a former top official on counter-terrorism (more on his title in a bit), said this on 60 Minutes:

"(It is) outrageous that the president is running for re-election on the grounds that he's done such great things about terrorism. He ignored it."

So, what's the Administration's response? Step up to the microphone, Mr. Cheney:

"He wasn't in the loop, frankly, on a lot of this stuff."

Hm. At the time of the September 11 attacks, Clarke's official title was "National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism." Which post he had held since 1998. And the Administration couldn't be bothered to keep him in the loop, sez Cheney.

And this is regarded as a defense against the charge that the Administration ignored terrorism? Isn't it actually verification?

Dick... I think it's time you went on another duck hunt. Permanently. You incompetent sod.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems to be logically up there with the administration offerring as "proof" that W fufilled the requirements of his National Guard service payroll information that demonstrates that he collected money. So... we still don't have any verification that he served, but we know he was paid for the service he may or may not have done. Oh, that makes it better.

(Though I'll admit this is hardly as pressing an issue.)

I watched the News Night one, looked to me like a senior civil servant who had had more than enough. He was very firm in his insistance that he would not endorce a candidate at the next election.

Not sure how much real damage it will do to Bush, but I have noticed the mostly Right Wing Blogosphere have practically ignored it.

Concern with USA

Your comments are interesting--for us the United States is growing more frightening in this movement to the right. The question of terrorism is everywhere--from Madrid to now Ahmed Yassine of Hamas. But communication and clarification are very needed to begin to solve this and that is not something I feel that your current administration wishes to do. Perhaps they cannot, but they do not.

Do you feel that the candidate Kerry if chosen will have the chance to win?
