I was driving home on Friday and heard this piece on NPR, all about the "Kilkenomics" festival.

"Mr. DAVID McWILLIAMS (Economist): What we've done is we've taken together Ireland's finest standup comedians and some of the world's finest economists. And we've come together for the first of its kind, which is an economics festival where the comedians ask the questions of the economists."

Sounds good, doesn't it? Economics, the neverending recesssion, comedy... What's not to like?

Well... Why isn't Yoram Bauman involved? Ph.D from the University of Washington, author of The Cartoon Introduction to Economics, Volume 1: Microeconomics, and, oh yeah, a comedic translation of Mankiw's principles so sharp and pointed Mankiw himself linked to a video interview of Bauman?

Why, indeed? It's not like Bauman is obscure in this field. If you google "economics comedy", the results are full of references to Bauman.

So... What happened? You wuz robbed, Yoram!

Reading this week's New Yorker from the mailbox, I'm pleased to report they've put online this "Personal History" by Zadie Smith -- "Dead Man Laughing".

It's quite a read, whether as a reminiscence of Smith's father, a history (and genealogy) of British humor, a memory of her brother becoming a comic on his own, or a reflection on what sounds like a hellacious case of writer's block while ensconced in Rome.

Heartily recommended.

Rosemary Watson is very talented. Jazz singer. Voice overs. Comedienne.

But she also does an uncanny impression of Hillary Clinton. Her face is slightly off, but the voice and gestures are absolutely spot on. Watson has "That Hillary Show", a channel on YouTube, for her Clinton stuff.

Here's a clip from about the time of Iowa caucuses -- look on in awe. I've heard one wag say they hope Hillary gets the nod as Veep, just so Watson can do this gig for a few years:

Or, check this, which points out the inferior job being done at Saturday Night Live:

So, I was doing my just-havin'-gotten-up scan of the Reuters feed, and I stumbled on an article about Shazia Mirza, Muslim comedienne. Headline: "Muslim Comedienne Triumphs with Veiled Humor"

Sample line: "My name is Shazia Mirza. At least that is what it says on my pilot's license."

Poking about a bit, I found her website. She has a fair number of audio files posted, and one video file.

Check it out.
