A strange thing from the land where an apostrophe so often means, "Lookout! Here comes the 'S'!"...

Have you noticed that Valentine's Day is frequently missing a certain something?

I suppose you could say it's the Day of Valentines. But even then, shouldn't it be Valentines' Day?

I'm just sayin'...

It is the day dedicated to Saint Valentine - who actually didn't have quite a romantic story to tell, either. So literally, it is Saint Valentine's Day.

Just sayin'.

I see you went and did some looking up after this.

I thought about putting the "Saint" in front. But whether Valentine was a saint or not is largely a matter of faith. That he was called Valentine/Valentinus would seem not to be (though, tales of the saints being what they are...).
